Vásquez de Velasco Legal is a law firm dedicated to advising companies, business owners and startups. It was founded on a simple conviction: the law should be a tool for making better business decisions, not an obstacle that delays them.
Our practice rests on more than thirteen years of professional experience, gained in private practice, in the legal departments of major insurance companies and at law firms. That threefold perspective, as outside counsel, as in-house counsel and as a lawyer trained at reputable firms, lets us understand how decisions are made, which risks really matter and which solutions work in practice.
Every matter is handled personally by the lawyer in charge, from the first assessment to its conclusion. Our clients receive a clear opinion on their risks, options, timelines and costs, and direct communication throughout the engagement.

Gustavo Vásquez de Velasco
Director and Founder
Lawyer with more than thirteen years of experience advising and defending companies, particularly in insurance, consumer protection, intellectual property, corporate law, debt recovery and proceedings before INDECOPI.
He built his career in the legal departments of major Peruvian insurers, where he was responsible for assessing coverage and claims, defending the companies in court, arbitration and administrative proceedings, and handling disputes before the SBS, INDECOPI, SUSALUD and the Insurance Ombudsman.
In private practice he advises companies and entrepreneurs on corporate and contract matters, on protecting and defending their trademarks and intangible assets, and on consumer protection and unfair competition. He is an intellectual property mentor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.
Career
Before founding Vásquez de Velasco Legal in 2024, he was Senior Legal Analyst for Claims Litigation at La Positiva Seguros (2022–2024). He advised the claims areas on coverage matters, managed his portfolio of judicial and administrative proceedings before the courts, CECONAR, the Insurance Ombudsman, SUSALUD, the SBS and INDECOPI, and supervised outside law firms.
At MAPFRE Perú he served as in-house legal counsel (2019–2022) and later as outside counsel (2022). He advised the business units and their directors nationwide; defended the company in judicial and administrative proceedings before the courts, INDECOPI, the SBS, SUSALUD and the Insurance Ombudsman; and was in charge of handling, coordinating and responding to complaints filed with MAPFRE Perú, MAPFRE EPS and MAPFRE Riesgos Generales.
He previously worked in the pensions practice of Estudio Muñiz; at Estudio Delfino Isola Bruce and other firms specializing in bank debt recovery; in the judicial collections area of Financiera TFC; and at notary offices. That experience gave him a practical grounding in litigation, debt collection and notarial and registry procedures.
